Stress, right now, is everyone's daily companion. Normally stress allows you to react to life's difficult situations with greater strength and focus. Sustained stress, however, increases the production of chemicals like cortisol and chemical messengers called cytokines, which contribute to increased overall inflammation in your body.

This chain reaction depletes your body's normal immune function. That means, chronic stress is putting you at greater risk of contracting things like colds, flus, and even Corona, while at the same time limiting your body's ability to fight these infections.

Most of us, including chiropractors in Dumont, are isolated at home, listening to the news, worrying about the future and doing very little to handle our growing angst. Now, however, is the most important time to put some good stress management tools into place.

Here is a list of a few things you can do in Dumont:

  • Get regular sleep - Go to sleep and wake up on a regular schedule. Don't bring mobile devices to bed with you. Sleep in a position that is supportive to your back and neck, to avoid waking with pain or discomfort.
  • Stop watching the news - Set one time a day to catch up with the day's events. Try reading about them instead of watching TV. News shows tend to sensationalize everything with the hope that you will be too scared to stop watching.
  • Meditation - Set time aside every day to sit quietly. If you have never done meditation, there are several free apps available on such as "Headspace" and "Calm".
  • Exercise - The gyms are closed so go out for a walk or workout in your house. If you need some motivation, our amazing personal trainer, Rachel is planning on doing virtual classes on "Zoom".
  • Set a regular schedule - As much as is possible, stick to a schedule. Set a time every day for regular meals, reading, speaking with friends and family, working and exercising.
